Denzel Ward quickly proved the Browns were savvy to select him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Ohio State cornerback was an instant hit as a starter in Cleveland, winning the Pepsi Rookie of the Week honor twice in his first five games.
One area where Ward really stood out was in man coverage assignments. Former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams frequently deployed the standout rookie on an island in man coverage and Ward responded by being one of the very best in the league.
According to Pro Football Focus, only Stephon Gilmore was better on man coverage assignments than Ward in his rookie season.
Man coverage is also where rookie Greedy Williams stood out at LSU. The Browns pass defense is set up nicely to have a pair of shutdown corners in man coverage for new coordinator Steve Wilks to deploy.
